This brochure, supplementary to the Document “CODEPEH Recommendations 2024”, addresses the fact that most postnatal hearing loss in children appears after the age of three years and, in many cases, has not recognisable risk factors at birth, therefore, early detection programmes for neonatal hearing loss are not enough to detect all hearing loss throughout childhood. It is therefore necessary to develop further initiatives aimed at the early detection of postnatal hearing loss, which should be considered as an important health problem that needs assessment and treatment. It is also a serious educational concern, due to the implications it has, if it is not diagnosed and treated in time, on behaviour, participation and social interaction in these children and adolescents, apart from causing delays and disorders of spoken and written language and in access to learning.
