To mark the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, FIAPAS, in collaboration with Servimedia, organised the talk ‘The Convention, 20 Years On: Progress and Challenges for Deaf Young People’, providing a space for dialogue led by young deaf people to reflect on the effective exercise of their rights.
Through a talk session, three young deaf people, a deaf employment specialist and a speech and voice adviser from the Royal Board on Disability shared their experiences and proposals, reflecting on progress made and the challenges that remain in education, training, access to employment and social inclusion, and participation, with reference to the rights enshrined in the Convention.
The initiative highlighted the opportunities created over the past two decades, as well as the importance of ensuring accessibility, equal opportunities and the participation of deaf young people in decisions that affect their present and future. The talk, broadcast live on Servimedia’s YouTube channel, helped raise the profile of young deaf people’s voices and strengthen their role as agents of change in building a more inclusive society.
