The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 60% of hearing loss in childhood could be avoided with prevention measures. If hearing loss is inevitable, interventions are needed to ensure children achieve their full potential through rehabilitation, education and empowerment. Action is required on both fronts.

In this document, the World Health Organization sets guidelines for action, discusses the impact of hearing loss on an individual’s childhood and development, the factors generating it, and prevention and treatment strategies.

It also gives cases of children from different parts of the world for a better understand of how hearing loss has affected them.
