Content:

Aware of the importance of adopting measures that favour healthy and active ageing, within the framework of its Elderly People with hearing loss Strategy, FIAPAS has produced this publication “Hearing well, Living better“, which contains information on healthy habits, warning signs of hearing loss associated with ageing (presbycusis) and solutions for its treatment. Its aim is to promote social awareness for an active and healthy life among the elderly people, as well as the necessary knowledge and motivation for them to get involved in the prevention and care of their hearing health and in the demand of their needs and interests for communication with the environment and for their social participation.

Hearing loss has a high prevalence among elderly people (around 30 % of the population aged 65-70 years, reaching 80 % of the population over 75 years). Due to noise pollution and lifestyle, these age-related hearing problems are increasing in others at an earlier age, around 50 years.
